C&EN and CAS present Brazilian Women in Chemistry Awards

Honorees will be recognized during the Brazilian Chemical Society virtual meeting.

In the week that two women made history when receiving the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, three Brazilian researchers and scientists were also awarded internationally. Professors Ana Flávia Nogueira (Unicamp) and Paola de Azevedo Mello (Federal University of Santa Maria-RS), in addition to engineer Sonia Maria Cabral de Menezes (Petrobras), won the Brazilian Women in Chemistry and Related Sciences Award, offered by the American Society of Chemistry (ACS) and by the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ).


The recognized works were in the areas of solar energy, analytical chemistry and biotechnology. The award also aims to promote gender equality in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Brazil.
